In some cases, especially for teens, children will need to see a separate dentist, usually an orthodontist. It’s nice, however, when the whole family can visit the dentist together in one trip. At Just Wright Dental we treat children of all ages, and pride ourselves on helping people keep their original smile for a lifetime! Research indicates that children who have parents that take good care of their teeth, learn to do the same.

Your Child’s First Dental Visit

Within the first few days of bringing your new baby home from the hospital you can begin to care for their teeth. We recommend cleaning your baby’s gums after every feeding and before bedtime, by gently wiping them with a clean, damp, soft cloth. Your child’s first dental visit should be around the time their first tooth erupts, or around their first birthday.  This will get them used to their dental appointments and help them develop the habit of visiting their dentist regularly. At-home care should include brushing twice a day and flossing daily, eating tooth-friendly foods, and trying to stay away from sugary foods and beverages.

The goal of your child’s first dental visit is to help make them comfortable with the people, the office atmosphere, the dental chair, tools, and more. It is important that we develop a mutual respect and trust, and show your children that dental visits can be fun!
