We use implants as bone stabilizers to maintain the bone, which is why the reconstruction is a medical question even when a tooth replacement is not. Patients travel to us from across Texas and from out of state, because we are one of the very few practices we have ever come across that successfully bills medical insurance for this work.

Jaw Reconstruction After Infection
When infected teeth, an abscess, or failed implant work placed elsewhere have eaten into the jaw, the bone has to be rebuilt before anything can be placed on it. Bone grafting, ridge reconstruction and sinus augmentation following the removal of infection are the kind of medically documented work a medical plan can recognize. For patients told there was “no bone to work with,” we can anchor above the missing bone entirely — zygomatic and pterygoid placement — often without grafting at all.
Removal of Infection
Infected and failing teeth, abscesses, and implants placed elsewhere that loosened, angled wrong or never integrated. Removal, infection management and site reconstruction are done here, in one building, frequently in one visit.
Functional Deficit
When documented loss of teeth or bone has left you unable to chew, speak or eat normally, the restoration of that function is a medical question. We document it properly the first time. The implant itself stays a dental-plan item — the medical side around it does not have to be.
Oncology Dental Clearance and Pre-Surgical Clearance
Before chemotherapy, head and neck radiation, bisphosphonate therapy, organ transplant, cardiac surgery or joint replacement, infection sources have to be cleared and documented on a deadline. We take these referrals from oncology and surgical teams, work to their timeline, and send the report back to the referring physician.
TMJ Disorders
Jaw joint pain, clicking, locking and the headaches that come with them are a medical diagnosis, and TMJ care is often billable to Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical rather than a dental plan, particularly when gum disease is also present. Therapeutic botulinum toxin for the jaw muscles is part of that care when it is indicated. We also evaluate the airway and provide oral appliance therapy for diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea on a physician’s referral.
Dental Surgery Cost With BCBS Medical Coverage in Texas
There are two different pots of money, and most patients only ever hear about one of them.
Your dental plan
Caps out at a fixed annual maximum and excludes most surgery outright. It runs out fast, and the implant itself usually sits on this side.
Your medical plan
Works on a deductible and coinsurance instead. Removing the infection and rebuilding the jaw afterward can be documented here — and that is the larger surgical half of most cases.
What a plan pays varies widely, and no percentage can be promised in advance. We will not tell you what your plan pays before we check it. We will check it, at no charge, before you commit to anything, and put the answer in writing.

Most dental offices cannot bill your medical plan. We can, and we do it in house every day. We are one of the very few practices we have ever come across that successfully bills medical insurance for this work, mainly Blue Cross Blue Shield. When infection has destroyed part of the jaw, removing that infection and rebuilding the bone is a medical matter, not a dental one. We use implants as bone stabilizers to maintain the bone, because when teeth leave the bone leaves with them. Medical coverage can extend to bone grafting and ridge reconstruction, repair of failed implant work, TMJ therapy, therapeutic Botox for jaw muscle pain and clenching, and dental clearance before chemotherapy, radiation or major surgery. It does not cover the implant itself as a tooth replacement, and we will never tell you otherwise. Our medical insurance coordinator handles preauthorization, claim submission, appeals and audits under this roof. We verify your benefits in writing before treatment begins.
