Most people are aware of what a full denture is but not everybody is familiar with partial dentures. Full dentures are the “false teeth” you may have seen next to your grandpa or grandma’s bed floating in a glass of water. It may have freaked you out as a kid, but now you understand the need for them. There was a time when there weren’t as many dental treatments that could be used to save your natural teeth and edentulism was more prevalent. Yet, even today, many people are missing teeth. If you’re one of them you can make your smile whole again with a full or partial denture.

Full Dentures

If you are missing all of your teeth on your upper or lower dental arch, or both, you will require a full, or complete, denture. Full dentures consist of a pink acrylic base fashioned to look like your gums, that holds your replacement teeth. Dentures are held in place along your gum via suction and denture adhesives. However, if you are concerned about slippage and lack of stability, you can opt for implant-supported dentures.

Partial Dentures

While a full or complete denture replaces all of the teeth in a dental arch, if you are missing only a few, or even several teeth that are not all adjacent to one another, a partial denture may be the proper treatment for you. Partial dentures can be designed in unique ways to fit your tooth loss. The replacement teeth are attached to a pink acrylic base as with full dentures, but they fit around your natural teeth that remain intact.
